The Gullwing is back.
Well the wait is pretty much over, the new SLS AMG is out, and it is absolutely gorgeous. It should be here about next spring and I believe Mercedes Benz is asking $225,000.
Let’s see what party favors it comes with.
- A DOHC 32-Valve V8, aluminum block and heads, and port fuel injection
- A new 7-speed dual clutch automated manual (it was made specifically for this car and was made in conjuction with Getrag)
- Eight airbags
- 6 cubic feet of trunk space
- Optional carbon ceramic disk brakes
I say we look at some performance figures. The SLS will sprint from 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, it will also do the quarter mile in about 11.7 seconds at 125mph, then it will continue to go from 125mph all the way to a governed top speed of 195mph. I bet it can do something to the tune of 205.
Now, I’m a mere mortal, my chances of ever driving this car are slim if any, but I don’t care. Looking at it is more than enough. It evokes a sense of wonder, and thats a’ lot for someone who loves cars. I’ve sat inside Ferrari’s, Lamborghinis, Bugatti’s, Spykers, you name it, and it’s been a while since I saw something so simple and elegant as the SLS. I really have to hand it to the boys and girls over at AMG, they did a superb job designing and building this car. It looks absolutlely solid, granted, the new Chevy Suburban looks solid, but it dosen’t give you that warm feeling inside that you might be making everyone around you astronimically jealous. Who knows, maybe sometime next year the collection will get their hands on one or the Mercedes dealership will get one and I can test drive it. If I do, you all will be the first to know, I promise.
Now that we’re on the subject of Mercedes, I would like to say that I saw a CL63 AMG Black today, and I’m almost positive that I now know what love is.
